Today's drawing, Bird and Fox in the Tiergarten :)
You know I have taken 11791 photos since 05/09/2006!
This the 11791st picture:
A portrait of my hardworking little camera that has taken all these photos.
This is the best camera I have ever used and the only one that I have ever bought. It is a Canon IXUS 800IS, it takes great pictures in low light, it has been reliable, it has survived me cramming it into my bag and rattling around in the bottom of my backpack, I have carried it with me every single day without fail since the day I bought it. I never ever go out without it, even to the shop to get milk. Say if I saw an interesting leaf on the way?!
This was quite a big purchase for me at the time. I was working on a fixed term contract with a low wage and not sure quite how I was going to get by long term. I bought it because of a recommendation of a friend of mine who worked at the same place as I did. We were both really really bored and used to go lay on the grass at lunchtime and talk about how we were going to ESCAPE these boring jobs. I have since lost touch with my friend, I moved on to a better and more interesting job and he finally went off traveling to all the places he had talked about.
Since 5th September 2006, the day I got my camera, I have loved every second of taking pictures. I have never been that keen on taking pictures of people and family, and honestly if there are people around I forget to take pictures because I am too busy talking. Also I get a bit tetchy if people have the camera all the time in your face, I told a friend of mine the other day that I would 'do a Björk in the airport' on him if he didn't stop taking pictures :) I love taking in all the little details of the day and capturing things that are gone again in a second.
But now I am starting to feel that I have stretched my little camera as far as it will go. I want to try fully manual. I would like a DSLR! But again now this would be a big purchase, many many times what the little Canon cost me. I have a better job than those days back when we used to lay on the grass talking about all the things we wanted to do. I earn more but now I have a mortgage to pay and holidays to save up for. I spent my savings on buying this house. Can I justify or even afford extravagances like a new camera?
So perhaps I will put aside little bits of money until the day I can afford such a thing. In the meantime me and my little camera will go about our business together day after day.

what a nice story :) if you save up for your camera, it will mean all the more to you. it will be like the arrival of a new child! today would be a nice day to lie on the grass talking about things here, i wish i could do that.

I have the same little camera. You are right it is a truly wonderful and dependable camera. Everyone of your 11791 photos have given you such joy that I think you sould just take the plunge and buy a new camera. Think of how much you have enjoyed this one. It seemed like an extravagance then too.

Thanks for the encouragement :) Yes I am really thinking about it. So much money though!
Today would be a good day to lay on the grass especially as it is Friday.
