We get sent some really pretty catalogues such as Toast, Abel and Cole, and Howies. You know - those catalogues with the thick matt paper that smell great. It seems a shame to just put them out with the recycling so I hit upon the idea of making their pages into gift tags.
A while ago I bought myself a little early Christmas gift of a tag punch from Ebay. But you don't have to have one of these.
You could just cut out the pictures you want to use like this. Where the back or front was too dark to write on I backed it with lighter paper. A normal office hole punch is useful for making the hole for the string.
Looks pretty good I think!
You can have infinite variety depending on what catalogues you have to hand. These ones are all from a Howies Winter 07 catalogue that I found at the back of my nightstand when I was having a tidy.
snap!! http://paperleafstudio.blogspot.com/2008/11/recycled-to-power-of-2.html love the punch :)

Love these - I usually make tags from old christmas cards but catalogues are such a good idea, particularly Howies catalogue. It always seems a shame to recycle their catalogue because it is so pretty...

This is great! I do something similar with our less-than-perfect screenprints, reusing them either into gift tags or note cards.

Hi Alice - great to find you (via Design*Sponge) - wow!
Where did you buy the punch - would love one?

Thank you everyone for the kind words! :)
Fiona - I found the tag punch on ebay. The make of the one I have is 'Dovecraft' and it is pretty good. You also need a regular office hole punch to make the holes in the tags (if you don't want to poke them out yourself).

How fabulous! I am going to have to find one of these punches but definitely way before next Christmas as I can see myself using these tags for birthday presents, hostess gifts, and a few fun projects. Thanks for this great idea!

Many institutions limit access to their online information. Making this information available will be an asset to all.
