blue top (with two sides)

I made a new top! I was fretting about not having had any new clothes for work in ages but I didn't want to spend anything so I decided to make something. To get the general shape and size I measured around a top I already had. I used some fabric that I bought at a charity sale a short time ago. I am not sure if the pattern is batik? It looks like it has been done by hand.

I got this idea to make a top with two sides where each side would work equally well as the front or as the back. For maximum variety! So one side is like this:

And the other side is like this:

I like to think that either side does work equally well as the front or back :) I wore the more ruffled side at the front today.

And now it is really raining hard. Oh well! :)

Hong Kong June 2006

For some reason I woke up this morning thinking about trips I have gone on in the past. I think this may be due to the fact that I am in the middle of planning for journeys this year. So I got up really early and went on a hunt for my old photos. I came across two disks of photos from June 2006 when I spent a couple of weeks in Hong Kong. The disks say they are 1 and 3 of 3 disks so goodness knows where the other disk is! I am trying to think up a proper archiving system so that things are easier to find in the future. At the moment I have no system :/ These pictures are from waaaay before I had any kind of decent camera or knew that much about taking pictures :) I loved Hong Kong, there was something interesting around every corner. The food was incredible, I had some of the best ever meals of my life so far there.

waving hello

Why I am showing this undignified photo that I took yesterday with my computer cam I am not sure :) I had just come in from cycling home from work and was sitting down to do my Japanese class. But I sent the photos to wave hello to my family and then I thought why not also wave hello to you guys who read this. Hello! Thank you for taking an interest :)

Ps. I am really thinking about getting this Fjällräven Kånken laptop bag in green thanks to Make it Easy. I do need a new laptop bag and it follows my criteria of being a bag that will get better with age. I like that you can carry it on the top as well as being a backpack. The normal Fjällräven Kånken in the different colours are also nice looking for an everyday sturdy bag.

I took these at lunchtime today. I spent some time happily walking in the deep shade enjoying that particular cold green freshness that only exists under old trees.

Mill

Mapledurham Mill by the Thames.

Rather unexpectedly we had some free time on Sunday so, as Simon and I a big fans of going on random adventures and it was a lovely day, we went to visit this working mill which is not too far from Oxford...

Yes it is all very picturesque BUT it is not just any old mill because, as well as being the last working mill on the Thames, it is also famous for being on the cover of this album:

(I bought some flour from them while I was there. It is not all rock tourism! I got some wholemeal and some semolina.)

A short walk from the Mill is also Mapledurham House, we had a look about inside. It is one of those stately homes where the family still live there but open it up to visitors on weekends in the afternoon.
