Phew that is the last one in the series for February! I was delayed in posting it because I was away for the weekend in Bristol. I think I will continue doing the timed pictures every now and again but perhaps not everyday. My March resolution is to get up to date with my Flickr, I still need to sort out what I am doing in the garden too...
In the past three days I have read four of Banana Yoshimoto's books. A book binge! It is great to be able to find a fantastic author and get a pile of books from the library and go through them all.
I like the quirkiness, magical things often happen, and the insight into peoples characters. A common theme seems to be death and loneliness. She writes about modern Japan, and there is something distinctly Japanese about her writing. Two of her books that have stayed in my mind particularly are Kitchen and Goodbye Tsugumi.
I was having a look at her site too, and it is nicely designed www.yoshimotobanana.com and she blogs! The English is older but the Japanese one is daily.
At the moment I am reading Ices by Caroline Liddell and Robin Weir
The book also has very clever recipes, including Earl Grey Sorbet which I made today. I won't pinch their recipe and publish it here but basically how it differs from the other Earl Grey sorbets that you get if you Google is that you steep the tea bags for 24 hours in cold water rather than making Earl Grey tea with boiling water and cooling it down. It prevents that bitter Tanin taste. I am very pleased with the sorbet, so delicate, both Simon and I loved it. I think next I will try the Lavender Sorbet, I will let you know how that goes...
Three posts in one day! I am off sick and whilst it is horrible to be sick it does give me a chance to catch up on the non-effort fun things like sewing and blogging and sorting out photos. Also to check out the winter view in daylight.
I was thinking about all the fun things that go on at this time of the year and here are 6 things.
1. Advent. Advent is big in my fam. I think it may be from the mish-mash of cultures but our tradition is to have a banana or egg sandwich and Lebkuchen whist lighting advent candles.
2. Books. Particularily re-reading old books. I just re-read Moomin Valley in November. I had forgotten how great the art is.
3. Birthdays. It is Simon and my birthdays in December. Sometimes I feel like I get a little younger and less sophisticated each year. I like it.
4. Eats. Specifically fancy eats. This is a pic from our work meal.
5. Creative deadline. Here is one of the gingerbread men I made from polymer clay, paint and varnish.
6. End of year gigs. Here is a pic I took at our show last night.
Winter is good.

Ps. I finished those CDs I mentioned last week. They were a sucess and everyone was v. pleased.
When I said I would try to post everyday in November I forgot that I was going to Dublin and so would not be able to keep to that. I keep forgetting this trip is coming up. I must remember to go to the airport tomorrow!
I have however done a little preparation in that today I bought my reading for the journey.
I am excited to be having a holiday :)
