A favourite weekend ritual. I think the pictures tell the story :) The Lego ice tray was given to Simon at Christmas, I think it is just the coolest thing. There are lots of other fun Lego housewares in the Lego webshop.

It is marmalade making season. I am not going to make my own but I did do my own breakfast time taste test between Frank Cooper's Oxford Marmalade Original and Frank Cooper's Oxford Marmalade Vintage. They were both nice. I would happily have either of them. The Vintage however had bigger bits and was a little more bitter, so I would say the Original was more of an everyday easy to spread kind of marmalade.

We went back for more leftovers at lunchtime today as I had accidentally left some clothes and books behind at my father's house. We had so many good eats over Christmas that I think I need to go on some kind of recovery to get over it :)
Each year I try to make the Christmas dinner taste better than the last. It is also the only time of year that I handle and cook meat. I ask my sister to do the chef's tasting of the meat dishes for me :) I cook a bronze organic turkey, sage and onion stuffing, roast carrots, roast potatoes, mashed parsnips, boiled Brussels sprouts, gravy, and bread sauce. My mother brings over a big ham and a non-meat main for me. I make zabaglione to have with our Christmas pudding, I think this is our family's own tradition as I haven't come across anyone else doing this? Christmas dinner is definitely one of the great meals of the year. I don't mean that at all in a boastful way about my own cooking, I mean it is just so great to have everyone around the table having a hearty nosh!

Well, I must say it is interesting to see it all laid out like that! It was quite a standard on-the-go cooking month, I was pretty busy so didn't do anything very time consuming. I am pleased to see that it was all homemade apart from the four times (four!) I ate out. There were also a fair few times that I didn't have any dinner because I was en route to a gig or something, which I guess is not so good.
It has also been interesting to see other people's contributions, interested in joining? Do go ahead.
Also I just remembered that it is my turn to pick the Day In The Life day! I choose this Sunday 6th July.
If anyone else is interested in joining in that also do go ahead. Let me know when you have contributed as I will list everyone on the following Monday when people have done their posts.
Here are the rules that I have copied over from a time Marceline hosted it...
HOW IT WORKS
Just blog about your day in as much detail as possible. Photos are good too so just do it any way you like. Stick your post up on your blog and then comment here with the link. I’ll post up links to everyone who blogs their day. If you want to link to this post beforehand to encourage other people to join in then go ahead.

Today I looked into the Greek frappé, the truly great thing about this, apart from being totally delicious, is that it doesn't require anything that most people wouldn't have already in their kitchen.
Recipe:
1 teaspoon instant freeze dried coffee
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup of water
ice
milk to taste
You need a cocktail shaker or jar. Plus a large glass.
Add the teaspoon of instant coffee, the teaspoon of sugar, and 3 tablespoons of the water to a cocktail shaker (or if you haven't got one use a jar with a lid). Shake it hard for about 20 seconds until the contents are completely foamy. Pour this into a large glass, add the rest of the water, the ice, and add milk to taste.
This drink has to get a 10/10 as it is delicious, quick, easy, cheap, and doesn't require anything special to make it. Fantastic! I can already tell this is going to be a summer staple. So refreshing.
Now I want another one already.
